This morning I have started to make a hat from one of my old jumpers. It has pilled and felted a bit but since it was one of my favourites it deserved a second life. I have used a hat I made a while ago as the template because it's a style that can be worn as a beret or a more upright hat. Having now got my needle felting thingy that I used on the mouse I have decided to add needle-felted blobs and cut jumper circles which I will apply with free-machining.
Here is a close up of my previous hat which was made from felted knitting (done especially) with felt knitting applique and free-machine embroidery.
By the way the conservatory was finally finished on Monday - no thanks to all the rain. I am in the middle of sorting out all my art stuff ready to put back now and can't wait to get back to some painting. Now I'm going to do a bit of desk hopping to other WOYWW folk whilst I have my coffee.

Deletegreat recycling. I found my typewriter on a flee market, I love using it as does my 6 year old son (which 6 year old knows a typewriter these days??) Vicky#4
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie, wonderful recycling of dearly loved garments, very clever and I do love the colours of both. Have a fab week Cheers RobynO#36
ReplyDeleteOh that hat is gorgeous, and the one you are making is going to be gorgeous too. I'm just starting to learn needle felting, it's fun
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way to recycle a jumper, but how come it doesn't run when you cut into it? I bet you are relieved about the conservatory. I would hate to have workmen around - my hubby built our conservatory and it was bad enough to put up with him. It took him two whole months LOL! At least your craft supplies will be sorted when you move them back! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa #48
ReplyDeleteGreat way to recycle. Glad to hear the conservatory is done and you can get back in there to create!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week

I can tell red is a favorite color of yours, because that new hat will look great once it's finished. I suspect it will take a back seat to putting your things back in your BRAND NEW space, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting while I slept. Happy WOYWW from #2.
Wow, that is brilliant recycling! I love the fact that your old jumper will turn into something new. Can you show the hat when you've finished? I'd be interested to see :-)
ReplyDeleteHugs, LLJ 16 xx
Your hats look lovely. It would be nice to see you model them so we could see the full effect. Happy WOYWW!
ReplyDeleteLove your hat...very boho :-) and your mixed media piece 343 is fab, using all my favourite media. Dawn #19
ReplyDeleteThanks Dawn
DeleteFirst, I LOVE the knitted necklace, I sort of knew that I would, but for me it's just the bees! What a great idea for the hat, aren't you clever.
ReplyDeleteYou are most kind Julia
DeleteThat beret is just brilliant - you'll have to show us a photo of you modelling the finished article! What a great idea to recycle an old jumper like this. I was intrigued by the mouse comment so scrolled down and thought the dissection was so unique - what are you going to do with it - yes, it reminded me of the o level biology class - just like you we worked on them over a number of weeks and the smell was awful!

great repurposing of a loved item. Will look forward to seeing a pic of the new hat. I am glad your room got finished. It seems like when bad weather comes around here everything shuts down! Have a great week and thanks for sharing. Vickie #61
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie thanks for the lovely comments. Can't wait to see how your hat project develops. The template is stunning.

Thats a great way to recycle a sweater - hope you show us the finished one! x Jo
ReplyDeleteAw. Love this example of re-use and recycle. A woman after my own heart - I hate throwing away when I don't need to! As you will have noticed when you visited earlier in the week. (Thanks for stopping by, I'm just a little late catching up this week!)
