As most of you know I do not have a workdesk and I work on the table most appropriate to what I am doing at that moment. The closest thing I have to a permanent one is my easel which is what I work on most of the time. For the past couple of weeks I have been working on 3 large paintings - this is 90x75cm - all based around forgotten members of my husband's family that I have very old photos for c1880s/90s. This one will have to come off its stretcher before I finish it because it's a bit skewed. The painting is done in oils with pencil drawing on top of the wet oils to try and give the look of the original photo. No doubt a lot of the paint on this will be rubbed back and reworked several times more but I have to let this dry for the moment so I can re stretch it.

This is an album I have put together with enlargements of the original photos. No one is left to put names to these faces which is a real shame.
My mate Steph is coming round in a bit for a sketching day on our joint 'seeds' project for the local artists fair in May and I am off now to get bread for lunch so I will check on other folks workdesks later. For anyone else who would like to join in check it out by hitting the WOYWW button.

The painting looks like a photograph. And that photo album is awesome. Happy WOYWW Vicky #3
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea! Will be interesting to see how you finish this painting, I hope you will share.
ReplyDeleteI found an old letter from a cousin last week who mentions someone definitely not in my family tree but she is gone so I cannot ask "who the heck is Maurice?"
Have a good week

So sad when there are gaps in family trees, my own is like that. Love your painting, the colours are beautiful, and it does feel very serene. Thanks for sharing, Judith xx #32
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting project Jackie..a great way of ensuring your family isn't forgotten :-)

What a wonderful project Jackie! Who would have thought you could put pencils on top of oils! This has got a mixed media feel to it and I can't wait to see it when finished. I've never tried anything on such a huge scale! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa #34
ReplyDeleteLooks great.

The face looks great we have an antique album we picked up somewhere and so many people in it care nameless but the vintagehots look sweet. It's amazing how good printers are when you blow up an image you painting is looking great hugs Nikki 4
ReplyDeleteWow! I love your painting, wish I could see it close up. I didn't know you could use pencil on top of wet oils, and I love the paper doll style dress. Have a fun week :o) Annie C #25
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about pencil on oils, that's such a clever look, it really looks photographic. It's such a nice idea too, with or without names, you're re-investing in their characters!
