WOYWW #332

This week I am working on the kitchen table because over-locking (serging) can be messy but that also means I have to finish this by lunchtime. Been finding more ways of using up the fabric from old clothes. This time my coat and skirt (I do like orange). I have already used some for rag rugging. This machine is about 30 years old and still does the job, thankfully. The jar on the side is where I put all the cutoff bits of thread - just because I may find a use for them in another project.

Overlocked circles pleated and then stitched together to make a brooch. The stamens are made from machine made cords over strips of the fabric and the center is dotted with french knots. Each flower is about 6 inches across si it should make a statement on a plain jumper.

    1. Tried your link but it said it did not exist. I have looked at your older entries and I saw you did some leaves also with stitched edges on a dress. Very lovely. I too like things that are random to inspire my work. Hello from Knowle. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowle,_West_Midlands) Jackie

  5. What a brilliant idea, overlocking the petal edges! Not only does it provide a really interesting contrast edging but you don't have to faff around with long running stitches. That always looks so easy but I can never get the resulting petals to look halfway decent! I really love your finished flowers :-)

    1. Overlocking is so quick and easy - if you have an overlocker that is. Not so easy though if you try small circles on an old machine.

  9. Hi Jackie, your stitching is lovely. How pretty your flower is and what a great way to use up scraps. I don't sew very much, other than a little cross stitching. I mainly do papercrafting now but I don't throw very much away either. Have a happy week. Barbxx #34

  12. I do the same with my thread waste. You never know when it might be just what you need for a craft project. It's not hoarding. Definitely not hoarding. The brooches are fab. Thanks for stopping by my desk. Sorry for keeping you in suspense about the dumflings!! Happy overlocking :-). Max #47

    1. I use them in papermaking and dissolving fabric and on a background for free machine embroidery because it adds a random element. Definitely not hoarding ;-)

  16. Hi, Jackie! Belated Happy WOYWW!
Oh yes, when I make my illustrations in either my prayer journal or my journaling bible, I get to reflect on each word. Since it takes time to do, I get to spend the time thinking about the verse and even memorizing it.
Thanks for the tip about sharpening pencils. Yes, I also use a blade for the tips since sharpeners don't give as sharp a tip.
Oh I would love to have a machine like yours! And it has lasted 30 years!? Wow! Great project!
    Thanks for visiting me!
